Individual letters mounted straight to the building. No panel, no border, no background — just the name, standing off the wall with a real shadow behind it.
What it is
Dimensional letters are the most architectural way to put a name on a building. Because there is no panel around them, the wall itself becomes the background, and the sign reads as part of the structure rather than something hung on it. Done at the right scale, it is the difference between a business and a brand.
Material sets the character. Laser-cut acrylic gives crisp edges and can be polished or matte. PVC cuts cleanly and paints to any colour at a fraction of the cost of metal. Brushed aluminium and formed acrylic bring genuine weight and a finish that catches light differently through the day. We have cut all of these — for Franklin First, for BETE Fog Nozzle, for Atlantic Furniture, for The Farm Table in Bernardston.
The install is where dimensional letters are won or lost. Letters mounted off a paper template drift; letters mounted off a laser-cut mounting pattern land exactly where the drawing said. We use the pattern, every time, and we set standoffs so the shadow line is consistent across the whole word.

Optical spacing, not mechanical — letters are kerned by eye so the word reads evenly at distance.

A full-size pattern is cut so every stud lands exactly where the drawing put it.
Pattern taped up, holes drilled, letters set and levelled, pattern removed.

Threaded studs are set into the back of each letter and epoxied into holes drilled in the wall — either flush against the surface or held off on spacer barrels. We work from a full-size mounting pattern so the spacing on the wall matches the approved drawing exactly.
PVC for the best value and any colour you like. Acrylic for crisp edges and a contemporary look. Brushed aluminium when you want genuine metal and the budget allows. For interior lobbies, acrylic and brushed metal both photograph beautifully.
Yes — halo-lit letters have LEDs behind a solid face throwing light onto the wall, which is a very handsome effect at night. That is fabricated differently from plain dimensional letters, and we cover it under illuminated signs.
A rough working rule is one inch of letter height for every ten feet of viewing distance, then adjust for stroke weight and contrast. We check the actual sight lines on your building rather than relying on the rule alone.
